Two due in court over dissident republican activity

Two men are due in court today charged in connection with dissident republican activities.

They will appear before a sitting of the Special Criminal Court this afternoon.

The appearance follows an operation by gardaí from the Special Detective unit over the weekend, when a number of intelligence-led searches were carried out in Ballymun, East Wall, and Cloughran in Dublin.

Gardaí seized semi-automatic pistols, a sawn-off shotgun and an AK47 assault rifle, as well as bomb-making equipment, which was destroyed in a controlled explosion.

Two men in their 50s were arrested during the weekend's activity.
