Time running out to bring criminal cases linked to Moriarty Tribunal, TD warns

An Opposition TD has warned that time is running out to bring any criminal cases as a result of the Moriarty Tribunal.

Social Democrat TD Catherine Murphy says the statute of limitations for action is about to expire - without any prosecutions taking place.

This March will mark the fifth anniversary of the final report of the Tribunal into payments to politicians - which Deputy Murphy said is also the Statute of Limitations.

She said that prosecutions appear to have stalled because of a failure in communication between the Gardaí and the DPP.

"The guards sent a file to the DPP, the DPP said to the guards [that] they need more information, the guards said … well, my understanding is the guards said they need direction from the DPP in terms of what additional information [was needed], and nobody seems to be taking ownership of it," she said.
