Three held after fatal Offaly stabbing

Three men remain in custody this morning following the fatal stabbing of a man in Tullamore, Co Offaly yesterday.

The 28-year-old man was stabbed during a violent altercation involving up to 10 men in the Arden View housing estate shortly before 11am yesterday.

The victim, who was a settled Traveller, died a short time later at the Midlands Regional Hospital in Tullamore.

He has been named locally as Derek McDonagh. His wife is expecting a child.

Gardaí are maintaining a strong presence in the Tullamore area, where tensions are said to remain high.
