Three Englishmen in €80m cocaine case appear in court via videolink

The three Englishmen arrested on board a yacht carrying €80m of cocaine off the West Cork coast in September, have been further remanded in custody.

Thomas Bitteon (aged 28), Benjamin Mellor (aged 35) and John Powell (aged 70) appeared via video link at Cork District Court today.

Gardaí again outlined how the complicated case is still under investigation.

The one tonne of cocaine seized on board the yacht , The Makayabella. It was one of the largest drugs seizures in the country in recent years.

Judge Leo Malone remanded all three accused in continuing custody to appear again at Cork District Court on December 11 via video link.
