The sunken Astrid yesterday.

A salvage operation is expected to get under way today after a tallship crashed off the Cork coast yesterday.

Thirty crew, including a number of teenage trainees, were rescued in the incident just before midday.

An emergency operation was launched and all of those on board were brought to shore.

The Dutch vessel was part of a tallship fleet that was sailing into Kinsale for the Gathering.

It is understood engine failure may have caused the crash.
