RTE sees losses increase

RTE recorded a loss of almost €17m last year, compared to a deficit of just under €5m in 2010.

The State broadcaster's annual report shows it received €183.6m in TV Licence revenue in 2011 - down 6% on the previous year.

The station generated more than €167m in commerical revenue.

The RTE Director General Noel Curran said the broadcaster has reduced its costs by 20% since 2008, but said further progress is needed to return RTE to a sustainable financial footing.
