Rescue operation continues in Co Mayo

A rescue operation is underway off the Mayo coast after a yacht ran aground.

The vessel veered onto rocks on the Erris coastline, forcing Ballyglass lifeboat to launch.

The lifeboat was launched just before 9am after the British yacht, The Crystal Maze, ran into difficulties close to the Mullet peninsula.

The yacht, with three people aboard, had gone on to the rocks about half-way out between Belmullet and Blacksod.

According to Tony McNamara of the Ballyglass lifeboat they are not in any immediate danger.

The lifeboat is now at the yacht, but conditions in the area are believed to be worsening.
