Rabbitte to meet RTE board over Fr Reynolds libel

The Communications Minister Pat Rabbitte is meeting the board of RTE this morning to discuss the BAI report into the libeling of Fr Kevin Reynolds.

Mr Rabbitte is expected to seek assurances from the board that steps are being taken to ensure such a libel never happens again.

Last week Minister Rabbitte refused to say he had confidence in the board of RTE following a damning report from the BAI into the libeling of Fr Reynolds.

The report found that there were significant failures of editorial and managerial controls within RTE.

The BAI also fined the organization €200,000 for breaches of the broadcasting act.

Over the weekend Fr Reynolds' solicitor turned the heat up on the RTE board saying the buck stops with its chairman Tom Savage.

It remains to be seen if Minister Rabbitte will ask Mr Savage or the other members of the board to stand down over the issue during this morning's meeting.
