Quinn: Vast bulk of what we promised has been delivered

A Government Minister has admitted that the reality of being in power means that it is not always possible to deliver on election promises.

It comes the Taoiseach Enda Kenny prepares to publish a review of the Government's

first year in office today, but there will be no "report cards" on the performance of individual Ministers.

Enda Kenny will outline a department-by-department breakdown of achievements, but will not be publishing his assessment of his own Cabinet.

Education Minister Ruairi Quinn has said, though not all promises have been kept, he expects the Taoiseach's report to be positive.

Quinn said: "The reality of being in power is always different to what you hope it to be, what you think it is going to be and you try and keep your promises as close to reality as you possibly can.

"I think that you will find that the vast bulk of what we promised and what was capable of being delivered in the first year has been done so."
