A prisoner has died in an apparent stabbing incident in Cork Prison.
It is understood the 41-year-old man was involved in a row over the remote control for a television, before the argument escalated into violence.
No one else was injured in the incident.
The man is said to have suffered stab injuries to his chest. He was attended to at the scene by a local doctor, but died before he could be transferred to hospital.
His body remains at the scene for a technical examination and the State Pathologist has been notified.
The Irish Prison Service has confirmed a serious incident has taken place and Gardaí are now investigating.
