President Michael D Higgins says he has great hope for the future of science and innovation in Ireland - after witnessing the standard of projects at this year's BT Young Scientist Exhibition.
The three-day event opens to the public in the RDS in Dublin tomorrow morning.
A bike helmet with Bluetooth - a potential cure for reflux in babies and using GPS instead of Hawk Eye in GAA are among the new inventions in this year’s BT Young Scientists Exhibition.
President Higgins spoke to the teenagers gathered for the launch earlier.
"Today is such a great celebration of the wealth of innovative and imaginative talent that will play a critical role in the shaping of our shared global future," he said.
"It is enormously uplifting to be in the presence of so many young people who present such a great hope for the future."
