President continues tour of flood-hit areas

The President continues her tour of flood-hit areas today, with visits to some of the worst affected areas in counties Galway, Westmeath and Clare.

Mary McAleese has praised the work of those who have come to the assistance of families, many of whom are still homeless just days before Christmas.

The President's tour starts in Claregalway, before moving to Gort, Ennis, Ballinasloe and ending in Athlone.

Yesterday, she described the work of the civic and emergency services in Cork following the flooding there as "heroic".
