ESB Networks has said power has now been restored to most homes who were left without electricity following strong gale force winds overnight.
AA Roadwatch has also said all routes are clear, after fallen trees an debris had blocked some.
Winds of up to 130 kilometres per hour damaged power lines and knocked over trees across the country overnight.
Power outages were reported in Longford, Drogheda, Waterford, Monaghan and Ennis. However, it is understood electricity in the majority of these areas has now been restored.
Met Éireann has said we can look forward to a relatively mild Christmas. Forecaster Eoin Sherlock said: "We expect the winds and the rain to gradually ease off during the day. We may even get some nice bright spells this afternoon."
"There will be some showers along the west and north in the day. It will be a breezy day, but it won't be half as bad as what we had last night."
