Politicians’ expenses and allowances are being cut by 10% overall.
The cuts will affect the allowances that deputies can claim for their constituency offices and phones as well as staying overnight in Dublin.
The proposals are based on the principal that TDs and senators should play a leading role in finding savings in State spending.
The recommendations were sent to the Minister for Finance Brian Lenihan who in recent weeks introduced a reduction in the rates of allowances paid to members of the Oireachtas.
The allowances are paid to defray the costs to members of carrying out their duties as elected officials.
