Pensioner dies in Stradbally road crash

A 69-year-old motorcyclist has died in a road accident at Kiloughan in Stradbally, Co Laois today.

The collision happened on the Stradbally to Abbeyleix Road (R427) at around 11.15am when the man's motorcycle collided with a pole.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and his body has been removed to the morgue at Portlaoise General Hospital.

Nobody else was injured in the collision.

The road is currently closed pending the completion of an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and local diversions are in place.
