Pelosi moved by Taoiseach’s words

The Speaker of the US House of Representatives has said she was moved by the Taoiseach's words yesterday during his address on Capitol Hill.

Nancy Pelosi told a gathering in at the Irish Ambassador's residence in Washington last night that the speech was one of the best Congress had ever heard.

Ms Pelosi said it meant a great deal to US politicians when he emphasised the importance of the friendship between the United States and Ireland.

Mr Ahern received a standing ovation after telling Congress that Ireland is now at peace.

Today, he travels on to Boston, where he will be discussing the ongoing campaign to secure residence rights for Irish citizens living and working illegally in the US.

Foreign Affairs Minister Dermot Ahern will also be attending meetings on the issue on Capitol Hill.
