A retired Dublin couple revealed that they almost lost out on a massive €500,000 EuroMillions Plus win after contemplating leaving a busy queue because they were tired.
The lucky winners proved that patience does pay off when they arrived at Lotto HQ today to collect their prize.
The delighted couple explained they were in the queue at Teletron in The Square shopping centre in Tallaght late evening when the centre was jammed.
The winning wife said: “I was a bit tired when I joined the queue and I was in no humour for the wait.
"There were three people in front of me and I was about to walk away when one person got served and I just thought: ‘Ah sure, I may as well stick with it now’.
The delighted couple plan to use their windfall to help their children out with their mortgages, and to make retirement more comfortable.
The happy husband said: "We are both retired and have our own mortgage cleared off so it really is a lovely amount to win.
"As for ourselves, we’re both happy and healthy so it will be nice to have a little extra to spend on a holiday whenever we need to - but you never know what is around the corner so it’s nice to have this to keep our minds at ease."
This ticket was bought at the Ticketron store in the Square Shopping Centre in Tallaght, Dublin 24.
The couple were one of two winners of the EuroMillions top prize from the draw last Friday 9th March.
There were two top prize winners from that draw, both of whom won €500,000. This Dublin couple and the Tipperary winner, who has yet to come forward, are the 12th and 13th Irish EuroMillions Plus top prize wins in 2018 so far.
The Tipperary winning ticket was sold at the XL Prior Park Service Station in the Ormand Centre, Clonmel, Co. Tipperary.
The EuroMillions jackpot was not won on Friday so it rolls over to an estimated €60m for next Tuesday’s draw.
