For the first time ever in Ireland, parents are being given a formal role in deciding who runs a new local secondary school.
The 1,000-pupil school in Gorey in Wexford will open next year.
The Department of Education is launching a survey seeking parents' views on who should be appointed patron of the new school.
The choice is between running it as a community college run by the local VEC, or an Educate Together secondary school.
The Department has invited both the VEC and Educate Together to make presentations at a public meeting in the town tonight.
The parents' survey is the factor with the single greatest weighting in the department's decision-making process.
