A convicted British paedophile is due in court in Cavan later in connection with breaking the UK Sex Offenders Act.
Child sex offender William Paden was arrested near the border in Cavan at about 4pm yesterday afternoon, after going on the run from his home in England last week.
The 56-year-old, who police in the UK warned posed a significant risk, had fled his home in Blackpool last week and authorities believed he had travelled to the North.
He had been wanted for recall to prison and yesterday evening was arrested in Ballyhaise.
Gardaí are holding him on suspicion of breach of a sexual offences prevention order.
Paden has 19 sexual convictions dating back to 1974, including rape, indecently assaulting a girl, assault with intent to rape and inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.
He will appear before Cavan District Court later this morning.
