The Valentia Coastguard has launched an operation to rescue two people on board a yacht that has got into difficulties off the Co Cork coast.

A man and woman are on board the private vessel around 120 miles south of Castletownbere.

They issued a mayday call shortly after 9am and a small plane has been sent out to assess the situation, with the Shannon Coastguard helicopter also due to be deployed after a refuelling stop in Kerry.
