Oireachtas committee to discuss role of social media

The Oireachtas committee on Communications is due to meet early in the new year to set out a plan of action to examine the role of social media in public debate.

It follows recent cases of cyber bullying and its possible links to suicide.

Committee chairman Tom Hayes said that it is an issue that must be prioritised.

He said anonymous comments in particular can be significantly more harsh.
