Off-duty garda nabs suspect after attempted armed raid

A man has been arrested in relation to an attempted armed robbery in Dublin.

At around 9:15 pm last night two men, armed with what is believed to be a handgun entered a bookmakers on Saggart Main Street and threatened staff.

The men then fled the scene empty handed but one was interecepted by an off-duty garda - he was disarmed and subsequently arrested.

The 34-year-old is currently being held at Clondalkin Garda Station under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.

The second raider managed to escape the scene.
