Obama places third in popularity league of world leaders with Irish roots

Obama has only managed to place third in the rankings of the world's most popular leaders with Irish roots.

John F Kennedy has pipped the current US president to the top spot, followed by Ronald Reagan in second.

Argentine revolutionary Che Guevara, who was a major figure in the Cuban revolution, is fourth on the list, compiled by Irish genealogy site findmypast.ie.

The poll asked respondents in the US and UK to pick from a list of 10 political leaders abroad who had Irish roots.
