Nine-year-old dies, mother injured in Leitrim crash

Investigations are underway into the death of a nine-year-old boy in a crash in Co Leitrim.

He died at around 9am when the car he was being driven to school in by his mother collided with a lorry near Manorhamilton.

The child's mother, who is in her early forties, was also injured in the crash.

She is in hospital in Sligo where her condition is not thought to be life-threatening.

A section of the N16 Sligo to Enniskillen Road where the accident happened will be closed until later this evening while a technical examination is carried out.
