Murray expected to resign today

Dr Donal Murray is expected to resign as Bishop of Limerick later today

The Vatican is expected to confirmed his departure in a statement due out this morning.

Dr Murray has been under pressure to resign following the Murphy report's criticism of his handling of abuse allegations in the Dublin Archdiocese.

The Irish Catholic newspaper said the bishop made the decision to quit last week.
