Murder inquiry launched as Tyrone assault victim dies

Police in the North have begun a murder inquiry following the death of a 31-year-old man who was seriously injured in an assault outside a Co Tyrone nightclub during the weekend.

Connor McCusker was attacked while on a night out in Cookstown with his brother Niall, the vice-captain of Derry's senior Gaelic football team.

A dispute began in a nightclub and continued outside.

Mr McCusker suffered serious head injuries and was rushed to hospital, but lost his fight for life yesterday afternoon.

A 21-year-old man is in police custody in connection with the attack.
