Murder inquiry launched after killing of Swiss girl

Gardaí in Galway have formally launched a murder inquiry following the discovery of a young woman's body in the city yesterday.

The victim, a Swiss student, was found strangled to death on waste ground near Ceannt Station yesterday morning.

She is believed to have been in her late teens and only arrived in Galway within the last few days.

A post mortem was carried out last night, but no further details about the case have been disclosed.
