McGuinness calls for board of FÁS to resign

The former junior enterprise minister John McGuinness says the board of FÁS should either resign immediately or be sacked.

The Fianna Fáil backbench TD is the latest politician to call for the board to go, however Taoiseach Brian Cowen has said the board was due to be reformed under new legislation which would be published in coming weeks.

This follows the Comptroller and Auditor General's report which highlighted a lack of budgetary controls at the agency in the six years to 2008 including a spend of €600,000 on a television advertisement which was never broadcast.

John McGuinness said the board should have resigned months ago.
