McCreevy launches EU information campaign

Charlie McCreevy, the European Commissioner for the internal market, has launched an information campaign on the workings of the EU for Irish citizens.

The objective of the campaign is to provide the public with information on EU law and rights, including information about the different information services that exist across the EU's various departments.

A special phone number has been launched, which people can access: 00800 - 6789 1011.

Commissioner McCreevy said the benefits of EU membership are generally taken for granted when in fact we have a lot to be grateful for: “We take many of the benefits for granted that the membership of the European Union has brought to us, not just in Ireland but right through the union.

"One of the ads for the local radio will say that in the last number of years the reason that you have had low air fares is a result of direct EU legislation and initiatives in that particular area, and that has been of benefit to everybody,” he pointed out.
