Man still in custody in connection with hammer attack

A 39-year-old eastern European man remains in Garda custody this evening in connection with an assault which has left a woman fighting for her life.

The 31-year-old victim, who is believed to be Polish, was beaten with a hammer at her home in Ladyswell Road, Mulhuddart at around 10am this morning.

She is in a critical condition at Beaumont Hospital.
