A man has been remanded in custody with consent to bail after being charged with stabbing his partner in East Cork earlier this week.

Patrick O’Rourke, 62, with an address at 38 Cooline Drive, at Ballyvaloon in Cobh, Co Cork, was brought before Clonakilty District Court today where he was charged with assault causing harm to Donna Foster, at the same address on Tuesday.

Detective Garda Michael Dillane gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution and said the accused made no reply to the charge.

He said the injured party, who remains in Cork University Hospital where her condition was described as stable, suffered 14 separate wounds during the alleged assault, has undergone one major operation, and may require more.

A file in relation to the incident has been submitted to the Director of Public Prosecutions and more serious charges may follow, he said.

Judge Timothy Lucey remanded Mr O'Rourke in custody with consent to bail to appear before Clonakilty District Court again next Thursday.
