A man has died following a workplace accident at a garage in Co Tipperary last night.
UPDATE (11.11am): It was reported earlier that the accident occurred in Co Limerick. The scene of the accident on the Limerick Tipp border, but it is has now been confirmed by Gardaí to be in Ballymackeogh, Newport, Co Tipperary.
The discovery of the man is thought to be aged in his late 50s or early 60s.
The alarm was raised shortly after 9:50pm.
Gardaí, the Limerick Fire and Rescue Service and emergency paramedics were called to the scene at a commercial garage near Aherns bar on the Newport Road.
The workplace accident is thought to have occurred earlier on Wednesday evening when the cab of a truck fell on the man who is believed to have been a mechanic working in the garage where trucks, tractors and other commercial vehicles are serviced and repaired.
A garda investigation has been launched and the Health and Safety Authority have also been notified.
The scene has been cordoned off as initial investigations get underway.
The man’s remains are still at the scene, but will be removed later and taken to the University Hospital Limerick where a post mortem examination will be carried out.
