A man has been killed in an overnight shooting in Dublin.

The incident happened at Killarney Court apartments, Empress Place, just off Portland Row in the north inner city at around midnight.

It is believed the man was shot in the upper body and died at the scene.

Gardaí say they haven't yet been able to identify the victim.

The area has been sealed off for a forensic examination and the state pathologist has been notified.

Detectives want to question another man who was arrested following a separate assault later in Talbot Street in the city centre.
