Man in his 70s held in connection with sexual abuse cases from 70s and 80s

An elderly man is due in court in Dublin today charged in connection with a number of alleged sexual offences.

The 76-year-old was detained by Gardaí from the Sexual Crime Management Unit, which is part of the newly established Child Protection and Human Exploitation Bureau.

He was arrested this morning in connection with a number of alleged offences which occurred between 1977 and 1990, and taken to Terenure Garda station for questioning.

He is due to appear at the Criminal Courts of Justice in Dublin city centre at around midday.
