Man in custody following armed standoff in Coolock

Gardaí in Dublin have arrested a man and uncovered a replica firearm following an incident in Coolock in the early hours of this morning.

At around half past two Gardaí were called to the Greencastle Road where a man in his 20s threatened Gardaí and members of the public at gun point.

The area was sealed off and following a standoff the man was arrested and brought to Coolock Garda Station.

One shot was fired during the incident by the Gardaí but no one was injured.

The scene has been preserved for a technical examination and the Garda Ombudsman Commission has been notified.
