Man in court charged with woman's murder

A man will appear in court today charged with the murder of a mother of one at a house party.

Katie Hughes, 21, was stabbed at the property in Park Avenue, Bangor, Co Down, on Monday night.

She was taken to hospital where she died.

The accused man, aged 26, will appear at Downpatrick Magistrates Court.

Ms Hughes, who was the mother of a young girl, had been attending a leaving party for friends who were going to Australia.

She was from the Chatsworth area of Bangor and had a sister, Gillian, and brother, Nick. She was a former pupil of Bloomfield Collegiate school in east Belfast.
