Man drowns after being swept from Galway pier

A man in his 50s has drowned in Co. Galway.

It is understood the man was swept from a pier in Carraroe at 10.30am this morning.

He was airlifted from the sea and taken to Galway University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
