Man dies after car crashes into tree

A man was killed when his car struck a tree in Co Clare today.

The victim, who was in his 50s, sustained fatal injuries when his vehicle left the road at Tullabrack, Cooraclare just after 5pm.

There were no other people in the car, which was the only vehicle involved in the incident.

The man was taken to Limerick Regional Hospital where he was subsequently pronounced dead.

The road has now been re-opened following a technical examination.
