Man arrested in connection with fatal shooting in Cork

A man has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting last April in Cork city.

The man was arrested in the Cork area this morning in connection with the incident which occurred in a house on Plunkett Rd, Ballyphehane at around 4.30pm on April 26 last.

Diarmuid Byrne, 41, was pronounced dead at the scene of the shooting.

Gardaí initially though he died following a tragic accident.

However, following forensic analysis, they arrested a 44-year-old man on the south side of the city this morning.

The man arrested today is being detained at Togher Garda Station under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
