Man arrested in connection with cocaine trafficking investigation

Gardaí in Dublin have arrested a man as part of an international operation tackling cocaine trafficking.

The 35-year-old Nigerian man is due in court later this morning.

This operation was carried out by the Garda National Drugs Unit along with co-operation from the Swiss.

Undercover officers had been monitoring the activities of a gang, which had been using eastern Europeans as drug couriers to smuggle cocaine into Ireland.

The couriers carried a few a kilos at a time, worth between €200,000 and €500,000.

As part of the operation, gardaí have arrested a 35-year-old man. He has been held at Pearse Street garda station for questioning.

He is due in court this morning and is expected to face a charge of conspiracy to import drugs into Ireland.
