Man arrested after stand-off with gardaí in Cork

A man in his 30s is in custody in Cork this morning following a stand-off with gardaí in Togher last night.

The man was apparently threatening to harm himself with knives and succeeded in cutting himself before gardaí were able to overpower and arrest him.

He was brought to Cork University Hospital, where he was treated for his injuries and medically assessed.

He is expected to appear in court later this morning.
