Man appears in Galway court on assault charges

A man has appeared in court over an attack that has left a man fighting for his life in hospital.

The 23-year-old Dean O' Brien, with an address on Bishop O'Donnell road in the city, appeared at Galway District Court charged with assault causing harm, and was remanded in custody to appear in court again next Monday.

He has been remanded in custody to appear back in court again next Monday.

The 27-year-old victim suffered head and facial injuries in the attack near Dominic Street in the city just before 3.30am yesterday morning.

He has since been transferred to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin where he remains in a critical condition.
