A 35-year-old man will appear in court later charged in connection with an attempted child abduction in Co Laois earlier this week.

A man - driving a stolen Nissan 4x4 - attempted to drag a young girl into the vehicle at Cullahill on Wednesday morning, but she managed to escape.

Gardaí launched an appeal for information yesterday and a man was arrested in the Castlecomer area of Kilkenny shortly afterwards.

A silver jeep was also recovered.

A man will appear before a special sitting of Portlaoise District Court at 3pm this afternoon.
