Taoiseach Enda Kenny is today insisting that the majority of people in Ireland will warmly welcome the Queen of England when she visits here on Tuesday.
Speaking from his home in Co Mayo earlier, Mr Kenny said the visit is a symbol of the healing of the past between Ireland and Britain.
He said people will and are entitled to protest, but that they must bear in mind the Royal visit represents a unique opportunity to showcase Ireland as a country that is open for business.
"It also symbolises a healing of the past, a recognition of two countries having grown up together and face a future out of respect an co-operation and the building of a brand new relationship there," said Mr Kenny.
"So I think it’s an international symbol of very powerful significance indeed."
