Locals join Coast Guard on Kilkee cliffs in search for missing man

A search is continuing in Co Clare for a man believed to be missing since late yesterday, writes Patrick Flynn.

The alarm was raised at around 11pm last night when Gardaí requested the Irish Coast Guard to assist in a search of the cliff walk at the west end in Kilkee.

The missing man is in his 30s and understood to be from the county.

His family contacted gardaí when they became concerned about him.

Members of the Kilkee unit of the Irish Coast Guard commenced a search of the area late last night while the Shannon based search and rescue helicopter, Rescue 115, was also tasked to assist.

The search was suspended at around 1.30am with no sign of the man being found.

Coast Guard volunteers and Gardaí resumed the search early this morning while around 50 members of the public, including family and friends of the missing man, have been walking the cliff path.

The Rescue 115 helicopter spent over an hour at the scene earlier however, so far, there has been no trace of the man.

Kilkee Coast Guard launched their rescue boat - however sea conditions in the area are said to be challenging while the weather is expected to deteriorate later.
