Latest: Gardaí appeal for information after human torso found in Wicklow

Update 7.02pm: Gardaí are urgently appealing for information after human remains were discovered in County Wicklow.

The remains were found by group of people returning from a picnic in the Wicklow mountains earlier today.

Gardaí have been unable to identify how long the torso had been left on Military Road, and it is unknown whether the remains are male or female.

Superintendent Pat Ward, of Bray garda station, said that an investigation similar to a murder investigation has been launched.

The scene of the discovery in Enniskerry has been preserved while the forensic examination was ongoing.

The State Pathologist and the local Coroner have been notified.

Earlier: Human remains have been discovered in County Wicklow.

The scene at Military Road in Enniskerry has been preserved for a Garda forensic examination.

The discovery was made by a member of the public at approximately 7.45pm last night.

Gardaí were then immediately contacted.

The office of the State Pathologist and the local coroner has been notified and a forensic examination of the scene is being carried out.

The remains have yet to be identified and searches at the site are continuing.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the area or who may have further information to come forward.
