Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny says his party is the only one ready and able to face up to the country's economic crisis.
He was speaking an a party fundraiser in Dublin last night.
Mr Kenny said 'Black Thursday' for bailing out the banks is not an end, but a beginning and that Fine Gael is up for the challenge ahead.
"We are not afraid to measure up to this mark," he said.
"When Fine Gael were called to do duty in Ireland's interests we didn't shirk that responsibility and we won't shirk it on the next occasion when that presents itself."
