Irish Water failed to anticipate anomalies, says Government TD

A Fine Gael TD has said that the problem with Irish Water is that unanticipated issues are arising every week.

Last night, Tánaiste Joan Burton asked for an investigation into letters which were sent to tenants of local authorities, saying they could be evicted if the bills are not paid.

Irish Water yesterday moved to clarify that landlords will not be held liable for arrears of water charges built up by their tenants.

Fine Gael TD Noel Harrington says there are too many issues arising every week with the troubled new utility company.

Irish Water failed to anticipate anomalies, says Government TD

“The problem is that every new week seems to be coming up with a different kind of anomaly, or a different situation like the landlord-tenant situation, like, let’s say, a dwelling that has a commercial and a domestic element to it – what happens there,” he said.

“These are questions that simply just, I don’t believe, were anticipated, and now they’re being asked.

“[There is] also the question that not every household got the application pack, and how do you address that?”
