Irish tip-off leads to closure of child porn websites

A tip-off from a member of the Irish public has led to the shutting down of a network of child pornography websites.

The anonymous tip-off was received by the internet watchdog Hotline.ie, which says the reported website was part of a network of related websites which all contained images of children being sexually abused.

The sites were traced to Australia and the authorities there were contacted.

Steps were then taken to stop worldwide access to the websites.

Hotline.ie says the move marks a significant victory against criminals who profit from child sexual abuse.
