Irish MEPs prepare to face their European counterparts

Irish MEPs are gearing up to face their European counterparts following the Lisbon Treaty referendum last Thursday.

The European Parliament will sit this week for the first time since the defeat of the Treaty here last Thursday.

Earlier, UK foreign secretary David Miliband said the Irish Government must now decide if it wants to read the "last rites" over the document.

Fine Gael MEP Gay Mitchell says the rest of Europe will want to move ahead, despite Ireland's decision not to ratify the treaty.
